Classic British Flapjacks

Ingredients

125g salted butter

125g brown sugar

3 tbsp golden syrup

1 tsp vanilla extract

250g quick-cooking oats

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 163 C/Gas 3. Grease and line an 8-inch square baking pan.

  2. Melt the butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the brown sugar, syrup, vanilla and cook until the sugar is dissolved and fluid. Remove from the heat and whisk until there is no visable melted butter and the mixture resembles melted caramel.

  3. Add the oats and mix until well coated.

  4. Spread into the prepared pan and press evenly with the back of a spoon or spatula.

  5. Bake for 20-30 min, until they start to firm. They will firm and crisp more as they cool.
